Over the years I’ve been asked to design from scratch or update company uniforms. The few I’ve remembered to grab photos of are shown below. In the case of uniforms I always like getting input from the team or a diverse sample of large teams before selecting the apparel itself. There are always comfort, safety, and durability needs to be met before I even start designing graphics, selecting material, determining stitch versus imprint or sizing logos.. Then there’s keeping it all on brand and visual identity appropriate.

(And yes, in the photos below, I designed the items around the outfitted team members as well; banners, wall art, puzzle magnet board, branded mobile treatment chairs, vehicle wraps and so on.)

Designing patches for team jackets, or branded hats and other company apparel goes with the job at most in-house design teams. These projects are the ones designers love to do because they’re fun. You have to stay on brand, but often there is more latitude for creativity. As most designers will tell you, often out of the three versions you design (or three dozen) the one you like the most typically doesn’t get picked. Everyone’s tastes are different, but that’s what makes life interesting.
